Tips to Choosing a Craft Show
There are several things to consider when deciding on a craft show. Some things to think about are:
- What are the application rules and fees involved with the show?
- What types of items are offered at the show? Finding the right fit is important. You want your items to be unique and different, yet you want them to compliment others at the show.

- Can you get an exhibitor / vendor list?
- Does the show's style or them fit in well with your merchandise. If you're selling fashion jewelry, you may not fit in well with a country type show.
- What is the general attendance at the show, and how many vendors will there be? Evaluate those numbers critically. For example, a show without an admission fee might have a large attendance, buy many of those attending may not be there to buy.
- What are the qualities of the customers & vendors?
- How long has the show been existence, and how has it faired over time. Shows in the first year or two may not do well until a tradition is established.
- What kind of marketing to the show operators plan to do? Do they hang up signs, produce television or radio ads? Successful show marketing requires a multi method approach.
- Assess the location of the show. Is it an area that your customers would venture to?
- Is the show held in conjunction with other activities? Is there entertainment or food concessions?
Once you determine that a particular show is a good fit for you, you should give it more than one chance. You might not do well your first time out because of your own marketing efforts, or your inventory selection might not be quite right. Sometimes even a good show can have an off year.
