Tips for selling at home shows
1.How do I Start?
Utilize your friends. They are a great resource! Plus by simply being your friend they already believe in you! Ask a close friend to host a home party for you. Have them invite least 10 people. (You want to make this a worthwhile event.)
2.What Should I Bring?
Bring everything that you might need. The last thing you want to do is get someplace and not have something.
- Check if there is a dining room table that you can use to set up on. If not, you will need to supply your own.
- Bring a nice table cloth or a display cloth. You might want to invest in a piece of black velvet. Whatever you use make certain that it is ironed and nice!
- Display stands
- Business cards
- Mirror
- Bags or Boxes to put sold items in.
- Receipt Book
- Credit Card Machine
3. What Should I Wear?
Remember you are selling your jewelry. You want that to be the focus of your outfit, not what you are wearing. Think about putting on something very simple. Black pants or skirt and black top is a great idea. This makes a good backdrop for what your finished pieces. Encourage your hostess to do the same.
When Should I Arrive? Plan to get there about an hour early to allow plenty of time for set up. The last thing you want is to seem hurried. As guests arrive, great them and make them feel comfortable.
4.What Should I do During the Show?
Begin with everyone sitting down. People who purchase your pieces are purchasing a part of you! That deserves a story. Make a personal connection. Talk about how you got started. How long you have been designing jewelry. What influences you. Make a personal connection. Then direct their attention to the display. Explain special pieces, and why you chose the parts that you did. Then encourage them to look around and ask any questions.
5. How do I compensate the hostess?
You need to work out a plan that you are comfortable with. Consider some of the following and then put together a plan that works for you.
- A piece of jewelry - something that's not too expensive
- A percentage of sales - Consider giving the hostess merchandise in the amount of a percentage of sales. For example lets say you give your hostess 20% of the sales back in product. Your show sales are $200.00. You would then give your hostess product in the amount of $40.00
- Consider a bonus as an incentive for others to sign up for a show.
- Offer a hostess discount. Maybe she gets one item at half price.
