How To, selling your jewelry to local shops

1.Where?
Look around where you live. Are there little boutiques, galleries or stores where you feel your product would fit in? Try and visit places that you think would be perfect for your product and browse around. Walk through the store, and get a feel for the place. What makes them ideal for your product? Do they carry items that are similar and yet different than yours? Does their pricing and quality fit in with yours? How do they display their items? Take a lot of notes.

2.Make an appointment.
After you've chosen 'target' establishments for your jewelry you need to make appointments to show them your items to the owner or buyer. Remember, small business owners are very busy. The last thing you want to do is drop in and expect them to make time for you when you walk in the door. You want to do everything that you can to get off on the right foot. A lot of business owners have designated times to see people regarding purchases. When making your initial call, simply tell the owner your name, your business name and what you would like to make an appointment regarding. Don't get disappointed if they tell you no, for any reason. Simply politely ask them if it would be ok for you to call back in a few months or when would be a better time. And then do what you agree upon, and move on to the next business on your list. (It's really important that you keep great notes.) Remember, sometimes businesses only purchase items a certain time of year
When getting ready for your appointment think about the style of the shop and dress accordingly. As a general rule simple is better. You want to dress as a showcase for your jewelry. A good idea is to dress in all black and wear a couple of incredible pieces of your jewelry.
It's better to arrive a few minutes early than a few minutes late. You want to show that you are respectful and reliable in business.

3.Smile and be friendly.
You don't want to come across as pressuring the buyer. No matter how the meeting ends up you want to leave on a positive note. If you leave a positive impression they often will contact you in the future regarding your product.
Even if they don't purchase your merchandise right then, ask if it would be OK to check back with them in the future. Ask when it would be a good time, and take good notes. Call, email, or send a note every so often to check in with them.
Make certain that you leave your business card and any photos or flyers you have printed up.
